Couple reviewing bank debits at the kitchen table

Stop Crane Finance automatic payments — the right way

You can revoke the ACH authorization you signed, and your bank has to honor it. Do it in two places, in writing, three business days ahead — and keep paying by another route so the debt doesn't grow. Copy-paste letter below.

Two notices

Revoke in both places — not just one

Telling only the lender is the mistake behind most "they kept taking money" complaints. The bank is the one that actually blocks the debit.

  • Give the payee name exactly as it appears on past debits
  • Ask whether the stop covers all future amounts, not one amount
  • Note the confirmation number and any fee ($0–$35 depending on bank)
  • If the bank asks for written confirmation, send the same letter within 14 days

Re: Revocation of authorization for electronic debits — loan account [number]

I am revoking, effective immediately, the authorization I gave Crane Lending, LLC d/b/a Crane Finance to initiate electronic fund transfers (ACH debits, remotely created checks, or debit-card charges) from my account at [bank name] ending in [last 4 digits].

Please stop all scheduled and future debits. This revocation does not cancel my loan; I will make payments by [paynow portal / phone / hardship plan].

Confirm in writing within 5 business days that the authorization has been removed. Any debit after the date of this notice is unauthorized and will be disputed with my bank under Regulation E (12 CFR 1005.10).

Your rights

What the law says — regardless of tribal status

Crane Finance operates under tribal law, but your bank is governed by the federal Electronic Fund Transfer Act. That's the lever.

You can revoke any time

Reg E §1005.10(c): a consumer may stop a preauthorized transfer by notifying the bank orally or in writing at least 3 business days before the scheduled date. No reason required.

The bank must block it

Once notified, the bank is liable for debits it lets through. A debit after revocation is an "unauthorized EFT" you can dispute within 60 days of the statement; the bank must investigate within 10 business days.

A loan can't require ACH

Reg E §1005.10(e): a lender may not condition credit on repayment by preauthorized electronic transfer. If Crane Finance refuses other payment methods, say so in the complaint.

Common questions

Stop Crane Finance automatic payments — quick answers

Can I stop Crane Finance from taking money out of my account?
Yes. Federal law (Regulation E) lets you revoke a recurring electronic debit authorization at any time by notifying the lender and your bank. Notify both in writing, at least 3 business days before the next debit. You still owe the loan and must pay another way.
Does revoking ACH authorization cancel my Crane Finance loan?
No. It only stops automatic withdrawals. The balance, interest and any fees remain due under the agreement.
Crane Finance kept debiting after I revoked — what now?
Dispute each debit with your bank as unauthorized (within 60 days of the statement). The bank must investigate and provisionally credit you. Send the lender a second written notice and file a complaint with the CFPB. Several BBB complaints describe this scenario.

What happens next — and what to do if it doesn't work

1Keep paying, manuallyUse the paynow portal or call 855-432-7654 on each due date. Or combine this with a hardship plan. Unpaid balances accrue interest and the $20 late fee after 10 days.
2If a debit still clearsCall the bank the same day, say "unauthorized EFT after revocation," and give your stop-payment confirmation number. The bank must provisionally re-credit you while it investigates.
3EscalateSend Crane Finance a second notice referencing the first. File at consumerfinance.gov/complaint (CFPB forwards to the lender) and, for the lender's own process, the Menominee Tribal Resolution Hotline.
4If the pressure turns to threatsRevoking ACH doesn't give the lender the right to garnish wages. See what's real: garnishment facts.
