Is Crane Finance legit? Yes — with four things you need to know
A real lender that funds real loans. Also a tribal lender with triple-digit reported APRs, a C from the BBB, three federal class actions and a state regulator alert. Every piece of evidence below has its date and source.
Verdict: legitimate, expensive, and loosely regulated
Use it only for a genuine short-term emergency you can repay over a few paychecks, after cheaper options are exhausted. Read the APR line in the agreement before you sign, and keep every email.

The site carries a live OLA member seal. OLA is a trade body with a code of conduct, not a regulator — membership shows the company is an operating business, not that its rates are low.

Loans are "governed by federal law and the laws of the Tribe, not the law of the state where you reside." Disputes go to the Menominee Tribal Resolution Hotline (855-853-3869) and tribal arbitration under Tribal Code Chapter 22. State interest-rate caps do not apply.

Green flags vs red flags
If you only read one section, read this one. Both columns are true at the same time — that's what makes Crane Finance a last-resort lender rather than a scam or a bargain.
Why it's legitimate
- Named, federally recognized tribal owner with a physical address
- Funds loans and sends TILA-style agreements before any money moves
- Published fee schedule; no origination fee, no prepayment penalty
- Live customer service line and a tribal complaint hotline
- Runs a settlement portal — it does negotiate
Why to be careful
- APR disclosed only after approval; reported 300–700%+
- Not subject to your state's rate caps or licensing
- Arbitration clause limits court options
- Complaints about collection calls and garnishment threats (a tribal lender still needs a court judgment to garnish — details)
- Does not report on-time payments to credit bureaus
