Crane Finance scam alerts: real contact, fake contact, and loans in your name
Scammers borrow real lenders' names, and complaints show Crane Finance's is being used — "pre-approved" texts, calls demanding a fee, loans nobody applied for. One list of what's official, seven signs of a fake, and the exact steps if it's already happened.

Seven signs the message isn't Crane Finance

A Crane Finance loan was opened in your name
Several BBB complaints describe exactly this: a deposit and then debits from an account the person never opened, followed by collection calls. Tribal lenders verify through alternative-credit databases, so a leaked SSN plus bank login is enough. Three tracks, same day.
Track 1 — the lender
- Email [email protected] and Collections@: "This loan was opened without my knowledge or consent." Include the account number if you have it.
- Ask them to close the account as fraud and stop collection. Request written confirmation.
- If they demand a police report, give the FTC report number from Track 3.
Track 2 — your bank
- Dispute every related debit as unauthorized (Regulation E, within 60 days of the statement).
- Ask the bank to block the originator and consider a new account number.
- If a "deposit" arrived, don't spend it — tell the bank; it's evidence, and scammers sometimes ask you to "return" it to them.
Track 3 — the record
- File at IdentityTheft.gov (FTC) — produces the report lenders accept.
- Place security freezes with the databases below and the three big bureaus.
- Keep a log of every call, email and reference number.

Freezing Equifax, Experian and TransUnion won't stop an online lender that uses alternative data. Crane Finance names these three — freeze them too (free, by law).
