Can't pay Crane Finance this month? Here's the way through

Missing a payment costs you fees and interest; ignoring the lender costs you leverage. Crane Finance negotiates — it even runs a settlement portal. This page is the exact order to do things in, and what to say.

Call now, before it bounces

855-432-7654 → Payments. Ask to reduce or move this one payment. The lender wants 2 business days' notice — a bounce costs you $30 plus your bank's fee.

Email a hardship request

[email protected]. State the reason, the date your income returns, and the amount you can pay now. Ask for the plan in writing.

settlement.cranefinance.com shows reduced-balance offers for accounts in arrears. Compare the offer with your payoff figure before accepting.

Step by step

Five moves, in this order

1

Know your real number

Sign in → Loan Overview and write down the payoff balance (not the "total of payments"). Everything you negotiate is measured against this.

2

Change this payment before it fails

Phone first if the due date is close. The lender's own rule: notify at least 2 business days before the due date to change an amount. Get the rep's name and a confirmation number.

What to say"My next payment on [date] will not clear. I'd like to change it to $[amount] and keep the rest of the schedule. Can you confirm that by email?"
3

Put the hardship in writing

One email to [email protected]. Short, factual, with a proposal — lenders say yes to numbers, not to stories.

Template"Account [number]. Since [date] my income dropped because [job loss / medical / hours cut]. I can pay $[amount] every [pay period] starting [date], and I expect to resume full payments by [date]. Please confirm a hardship arrangement in writing. I want to resolve this, not avoid it."
4

Check the settlement portal

Crane Finance's settlement site lists reduced-payoff offers for eligible accounts. If an offer is less than your payoff balance and you can raise the lump sum, it's usually the cheapest exit. Ask for the offer letter before paying.

5

Pay only against written terms

Reply to the confirmation email with "Agreed" and keep the thread. Several BBB complaints involve plans that were "barely different" or balances that changed — the email is your protection. If the plan is honored, ask for a paid-in-full letter at the end.

Settlement portal

Crane Finance does negotiate

Unlike most tribal lenders, Crane Finance runs a separate settlement site where accounts in arrears can see and accept reduced-balance offers. A Trustpilot reviewer in hardship described it as "a fair settlement plan… they honored the terms." Offers are discretionary and usually appear after one or more missed payments — so don't let the account bounce in order to get one; the fees and interest in between outweigh the discount.

If the portal shows no offer, the hardship email in step 3 is the route. Escalate unresolved cases to the Menominee Tribal Resolution Hotline.

Don't make it worse

Four things that feel like solutions

Closing the bank accountStops the debit, not the debt. Triggers NSF fees and shows as a return in the databases other lenders check.
Taking a second loan to cover itAt 300–700% APR this is the fastest way to double the problem. Use cheaper options or a PAL instead.
Ignoring the callsCollection pressure rises and a hardship plan gets harder to get. One email beats ten missed calls.
Paying a "settlement" by gift card or wireCrane Finance takes payments from your checking account or its portal only. Anything else is a scam — see scam alerts.
Common questions

Can't pay Crane Finance? — quick answers

Will Crane Finance settle for less than I owe?
It runs a dedicated settlement portal (settlement.cranefinance.com) and borrowers report agreeing fair settlement plans during hardship, so yes in some cases. Offers are at the lender's discretion and depend on how much has already been paid.
What happens if I just stop paying Crane Finance?
The scheduled debit will still be attempted; if it bounces you owe a $30 NSF fee plus your bank's fee, and after 10 days a $20 late fee. Interest keeps accruing. The account can go to collections and the default is recorded in the alternative-credit databases other online lenders check.
Can I pause Crane Finance payments?
There is no published pause option, but Crane Finance asks for 2 business days' notice to change a payment amount, and borrowers report negotiated plans. Ask in writing and get the answer in writing.
