Crane Finance payments: how they work and how to pay less

Every loan is repaid in fixed amounts on your pay dates, auto-debited from the checking account you applied with. Here's the schedule, how to pay early or change an amount, and the two fees to avoid.

Your schedule

What a bi-weekly schedule looks like

Example: $500 approved on a Monday, paid every other Friday, six payments. Your agreement lists the exact dates and amounts.

SignedAgreement e-signed; funds next business day (or same day for $5).
Payment 1First payment: next pay date at least 5 days out. Auto-debited.
Payment 2Same amount, every pay date.
Payment 3Pay extra here and the schedule shortens.
Payment 4
Payment 5
Paid in fullFinal payment; loan closes. Crane Finance doesn't report to bureaus.
Weekend or holiday pay date? The debit lands on the business day before or after — whichever you chose on the application. Check which one, so the money is there.
Pay early

Paying off early — no penalty, less interest

Interest accrues on the outstanding balance, so every payment made early or above schedule cuts the total finance charge. Crane Finance's own terms encourage it.

Relaxed borrower after paying off a loan early
No prepayment penaltyEvery extra dollar goes to principal and shortens the schedule.
Check your payoff balanceSign in → Loan Overview. The payoff figure is interest-to-date, so it's lower than the "total of payments" on your agreement.
Give 2 business days' noticeEmail [email protected] or call 855-432-7654 before the next due date with the amount you want to pay. This is the lender's stated rule for changing a payment.
Ask for principal reduction in writingSay "apply the extra to principal" and request a confirmation email with the new balance. Keep it — several complaints involve disputed balances.

Scheduled ACH debit

Default method. Fixed amount on each pay date from your checking account.

Automatic

One-time payment (paynow)

Crane Finance runs a separate "paynow" portal for extra or early payments. Sign in with your account details.

If a payment fails

The two fees — and how to avoid both

$30 NSF feeCharged when your bank returns the debit for any reason. Your bank may add its own overdraft/NSF fee on top. If the balance will be short, change the amount or date 2 business days before — don't let it bounce.
$20 late feeAdded only when a payment is more than 10 days past due. A one-day slip costs nothing extra in fees, but interest keeps accruing on the unpaid balance.
Can't make this month's payment at all? Don't just let it return. Crane Finance runs a settlement portal and, per borrower reports, agrees to hardship plans. See what to do when you can't pay. If you've already revoked ACH authorization and debits continue, see stopping automatic payments.
Common questions

Crane Finance payments — quick answers

When is my first Crane Finance payment due?
On your next pay date that is at least 5 days after the loan is made. If your next pay date is sooner than 5 days, the first payment moves to the following pay date.
Can I change a Crane Finance payment amount or date?
Yes, but Crane Finance asks for notice at least 2 business days before the due date. Contact [email protected] or call 855-432-7654.
What happens if a Crane Finance payment bounces?
A $30 NSF fee is charged if your bank returns the payment. If the payment is more than 10 days late, a $20 late fee is added. Your bank may also charge its own fee.
Can I pay Crane Finance with a debit or credit card?
Scheduled payments are debited from your checking account. Crane Finance runs a paynow portal for one-time payments; several BBB complaints describe difficulty paying by card, so call ahead if you need a different method.
Good to know

Three things borrowers get wrong

"Paying on time will build my credit"

It won't. Crane Finance doesn't report to Equifax, Experian or TransUnion. On-time payments help you with Crane (VIP status for a second loan) but not with your score. If credit-building is the goal, see alternatives that report.

"The payoff balance is the total of payments"

The agreement's "total of payments" assumes you run the full schedule. The payoff balance today is principal plus interest accrued so far — usually much less. Always ask for the current payoff figure.

"I can just close my bank account"

That stops the debit but not the debt, triggers the $30 NSF fee, and shows as a return in the same databases Crane Finance checks. Revoke authorization properly instead — here's how.
